A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I have been trying to think of another, but I can only think of one reason to wash an elephant on the picket line where they have to stand.
Casey,
I don't know. I always just took them outside. LOL
So you suppose that "tie down" strap in a leg chain?
Wade
Not sure Wade, but I think I see the letters "KI..." after the word circus on the trailer--maybe be Circus Kinos?
Chris
This picture has so many "I can't F&%$ing believe this S$#@s" that one has to wonder where LJ is to explain the finer points of animal husbandry in circuses.
1. Elephant is still tied to truck, because it will refuse a bath a "duffy" if you spray it with a hose while it is loose.
2. We have either a 7 year old or Tattoo (zee plane boss zee plane) holding the hook, probably seems like a peace offering at this point to the elephant.
3. To much soap and water, not enough wire brushing and/or moisturizers (very heavy necrotic skin build up even for an African) get your hands wet and let them air dry a few times a day and after a week they will resemble this elephant
4. Untreated infection in the elephants left tusk (notice skin above gum line and on side of head,,,very smooth huh?)
5. My personal favorite. Orange extension cord that ends in the pool of water they are making giving the elephant a bath,,,LOL
Wrong on the cord,,,,they apparently have water hose there that resembles electric cord,,,,LOL. My mistake.
Casey - I'm on the bottom of the world so I can't see so good. In fact I can't even see the elephant's left tusk.
How can you tell that there is an infection there?
Regards.
I had a bit to drink last evening watching the Florida Oklahoma football game. And Casey, you da man on Africans -- but I'm with Steve on the invisible left tusk. Will say that the pile of empty cheap shampoo/conditioner bottles is a hoot.
Ben,
I thought is was a scene that you could see on any number of dink, family operated shows around the world. Thats why I didn't think it needed identification. Chose who you think it is. LOL

Ben & Stevey,,
Not to be confused with those blokes Ben & Jerry,,,LOL
I sadly know this by experience. Some of the tusk is still there which you can tell by the shape of the lip above. The infection is evident by the necrotic skin being white on her face and ear on that side. This is caused by either wire brushing or the elephant constantly rubbing it with her trunk and the side of the truck. Since by the rest of the elephants body we can assume it is not from wire brushing, it is likely from the elephant applying pressure on her "tooth ache" as it were. Sometimes they will just constantly rub the lip with the trunk, because it is swelling and hurts a little, sometimes they will spend the whole day pushing their face into the truck cause it REALLY REALLY hurts, and when they do that the ear gets white as well. Ben you may remember an elephant recently that had similar markings, and she also has a few inches of tusk up there that need to be flushed regularly. It is actually much better to have the chunk of tooth removed, but it can be expensive so it is seldom done. SMZ/TMP as soon as you see them screwing with the lip will also prevent swelling and pain. Trust me though, if you were to smell under that lip it would cause an instant gag reflex.
