A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Giraffe exhibit looks really familiar, I just can't put a name to it. I'm tempted to say Rio Grande, but I was only there once, maybe thirty years ago.
I think the giraffe enclosure is the one in the "new" Milwaukee zoo of the 1950s.
RJR,
I thought Milwaukee also by the giraffe enclosure, Then the baby elephants looked like they were in a enclosure that I have seen in a Brookfield guide book. I hope the rhea was loose, and by the front entrance, instead of that garbage can being his water dish. LOL Do the ear on the punk African look unusual to you?

I originally though about Milwaukee, since the Bluemound site dated from the 1950's, but I thought the roof of the barn is wrong, and I remembered the gunite rock walls as being taller. The only time I was there was 1982, so I don't know for sure that the 1950's design was still in play. Thought about Indianapolis, which I've never seen -- but I have seen pix of their elephant display in the 1960's -- but I think they moved their giraffes to a "plains" exhibit pretty early on.
