I think we forget that the public may not be as learned as they like to think they are, and as we have discussed things can be perceived in their mind as gospel. Also, in reference to being afraid, why did no one address the Prince for the damage done, or the Princess, ECA, and Wayne McCary and festival participants for some more self serving spin when it was addressed. Think I was wrong? Who put themselves in a bad light. Do you know how many people have made a hobby out of this thing we call a life? This was cut and copied off of a Monaco blog from the administrator:
"I don't visit the circus because of the animals. We have surely grown beyond all that and their exploitation. I did take some photographs of the elephants but I won't be publishing them. I thought them in poor condition and remember last year, when I saw them in their tent, one was rocking back and forth - not a happy camper. As for the big cats in their cages - no way.
However, my friend, whose apartment overlooks the circus, tells me she hears the sealions having the best fun in their area of water and certainly they looked happy to perform at this outdoor event.
As an aside, and a very important one, Prince Albert has sent two leopards from the Monaco Zoo to the Born Free reserve in South Africa. There have been endless complaints over the years about the poor conditions in the zoo. I believe Virginia McKenna, from the Born Free foundation, campaigned for years to get the place closed, but in Prince Rainier's years, nothing was done. An elephant died, as well as a white tiger last summer and finally, at last, the zoo, as it was will come to an end. There is still a hippopotamus and a dromedary but presumably these will find a new home too.
Prince Albert plans a farm for children where they can come and see and pat donkeys, goats, sheep, rabbits etc. A far better idea. Good for the Prince!"

As noted in the past some countries have banned felines and bears, but have allowed elephants and sea lions. This individual assumes sea lions are happy in the circus because they are having "the best fun" swimming in their pool!!!! They assume the caged animals elephants are unhappy because they have been taken out of there "large jungle home." How big does this clown think the oceans ot the world are? If you gave a dolphin the same thing they would object. Yet they perceive the sea lion as happy because it is swimming(moving), and the elephant as unhappy because it is swaying(moving) also. Just a different movement. But because this person has probably had a great time in the south of France swimming, he assumes the sea lion is have as much fun!!!!!! Trust me, that is how the uninformed think.
The comment about the Prince's deed is real telling about what the public perceives of captive animals and how that perception was spoon fed with the "give away of the leopards. He may have his opinions which he has a right to, and his sister may have her opinions which she has a right to also. But by hooking our wagon to that obviously contradicting mentality for some self serving "aren't I special" day's of sun and fun, I suggest we did more to invalidate ourselves than any public forum could.
