Ned Update

http://www.elephants.com/Ned/ned_diary.htm The elephant that is mentioned as coming to see Ned over the fence is Billie. She is the elephant on our right in the picture above at Hawthorn. Her name is not Billie Sue or Miss Billie. Also above from left to right is Nic, Freida, Sue, and again Billie. All 4 elephants were protected contact elephants when this picture was taken in 2002. They are in a pen designed for one elephant built in 1991. Eventually I was able to get around Nic and Freida. Billie has been in other pictures of the Hawthorn 5 act that I and Margaret and Adam worked with until 1981. Billie was put in protected contact in 1993 by the then Hawthorn "elephant staff," and she had indeed turned "stone cold". Offhand management which is her current situation is much better for her.
