Long lining/long reining--Done well it is spectacular

Albert Ostermaier and "Snow King his Andalusian. This is the horse that fell on him and ruined his leg. He used him for only a long line horse after that, he was a real pistol. You can see in the picture Albert is standing a bit awkward as he was still healing after almost losing his leg." I mislabeled the horse in this picture as Aleros, and Madame Col, has pointed out that is is Snow King. The incident where Snow King fell on him is quite well know, and was very, very serious as Albert was drug for quite some distance with his foot hung in the stirrup. It has happened to me once and it is something I never, ever want to experience again. Truly, truly the most frightening thing in the world, and a bad way to die if you don't get your foot unhung.

Dianne,
Thank you for the correction. Was it not after this incident that Albert started using a "safety stirrup?" TV horseman Ken McNabb(who endorses "break away stirrup's") has a frightening commercial on his program with a horse galloping across an open empty prairie with the wind blowing(the "aloneness" is the worst part of the clip), and a rider dragging in the stirrup. Staged of course, but very effective.
