A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Are these Malayans blind per the earlier commentator?
RJR,
I don't think so. These are Florida Tapirs. Way I understand it, the ray's from the "down under" sun is what Helen Keller'ed the Australian Tapirs. I think the Malayan Tapir is a neat animal and a great exhibit. The spotted babies really would make a nice exhibit special.

I don't think there has been a Malayan tapir on an American Circus since the early 1930s. There is an Eddie Jackson photo of one in RBBB's Sarasota WQ in 1930.
