Wade, I always proudly tell people that I saw Mohini at the National Zoo when my first husband was stationed at the Pentagon. What I forget to tell most people is that I also saw Blackjack in his stable at Fort Myer at that time in my life. Fort Myer is where the Third Infantry Honor Guard (also know to insiders as the "Third Herd") is stationed; they also guard the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Blackjack was the riderless horse that carried President Kennedy's boots in his funeral procession. My first husband and I returned with our children in 1981 and revisited Fort Myer. Blackjack was deceased by then, but his stall was preserved, and had a plaque on it. We were told that Blackjack is buried in the far corner of Summerall Field, the parade field at Fort Myer. Yes, for a short time, I was a military wife.

I went to West Point the other day. There is nothing with the exception of the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier, that is more impressive. And Blackjack will always be remembered at the horse, that carried Jack Kennedys boots.

Also, I learned that the correct spelling of his name is two words, Black Jack, and that he was named for General Pershing.

Thank you. That's what I get for listening to you. I had first written Black Jack as I thought that was the way it was written, then I reread you post, and thought maybe I am wrong, and rewrote Blackjack. LOL
