A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Beautiful belly mane!
Mary Ann
Is that a young Barbary lion?
Ian
Ian,
I don't think anybody cared back them. This was for all intents and purposes a "puppy mill" for lions. As long a you had Black Maned Nubian Bush Lions you were official, and if you wanted to inflate your friends capability's you said they trained Sumatran tigers, instead of Bengal.

Mary Ann,
"Beautiful belly mane?" It is a cage so trainers/keepers can "track down and kill any untameable beast that escapes from the confines of its pen." Like the San Francisco Zoo has been criticized for?

I believe this device would be a great aid for someone who wished to be a 'lion tamer' but was afraid of big cats.

a smaller, more portable (on wheels) rig like this was used to protect photographers shooting inside the steel arena for movies, publicity photos, etc. back in the days when cameras needed to be closer in to the subjects
