A nice group of Lipizzans

John, This picture was stamped England on the back, and the name Trude. Do you know of an older act worked by somebody named Trude?

Sorry, but I don't recognise the lady. Not do I recall hearing of any Trude, either as a forename or a surname.

John.

Trude Stosch - Sarrasani presented lipizzan liberty horses from 1938 to 1944 and after the War in Argentina and in 1978 the Togni's 12 lipizzaners in the Circus Sarrasani or Gertrude Konyot who lived in England in the 40's .

Most likely Trude Stosch then. The "costume" is nice. It has a Monte Carlo Gold for creativity written all over it. LOL

Laszlo,
I have heard that after the war when Patten was rounding up all the Lipizzans to take back to Vienna they attempted to get some of the horses in the circus, but were unsuccessful. Have you ever heard anything about that.
Another piece of "undocumented" information is that a number of German circus's asked Knie, given their neutrality in Switzerland, to keep their horses and various other animals safe, and that after the war when they went to get their stock, Knie wanted paid for keeping them, and when they couldn't pay up, that is how Knie got a lot of their great early horses.

Wade, I also just learned that the "white" Lipizzans are actually gray. That is, they are not true white, born with pink skin and white coats. Instead, they turn white later. My niece Val told me that the difference is very obvious when the horse is wet.

Mary Ann,
Speaking of not listening, I told you that when you were here, and I was showing you Contessa the gray dappled horse at Lake Geneva. And I explained when I first trained her she was black. I also explained how a rose grey horse is born chestnut, and "white" horses are wrongly called white instead of grey, and they are only "white" if they are albino, and have no pigmentation. You asked me in the Paint/Pinto if there was such a thing as a "white" because you felt bad for the "lethal White" foals, and I said, technically they are, but the White Horse which is registered in Nebraska, that the Andersons White Horse troup uses is a true "white horse. You were probably too busy telling me what some magician said in their Authorized Biography, sold in the gift shop said, and didn't here me.

Wade, I was listening, but the pieces weren't all fitting together at the time. In addition to the white tigers, the kittens, and your charm, one could get overwhelmed!!!!! Seriously, will Contessa eventually turn white, stay dappled gray, or do you have to wait and see?

Mary Ann,
It depends because Contessa wasn't black in the pure sense, meaining she had gray underlying and in the right light had a dark salt and pepper look, plus grey on her face, she dappled which is called steel grey, different from rose grey which has chestnut. Some completely grey out, and some retain various remnants of the dapple, normally on their hips or shoulders, and they have a silvery color. Some call it a dirty grey. I like how the remnant dappling looks, so screw them, I call it "silver grey". And no, you can't have "white lions" back. Because they aren't. LOL

Wade, you will notice that I have not referred to them as "white lions" in quite some time, instead deferring to the use of "champagne lions" which we agreed on some time ago. Like you, I have never cared much for golden tabbies, but the strange thing is that I no longer consider "snow whites" the rare miracle that I once thought that they were. My misgivings started in 2001, and you have reinforced them. However, my love for the true white tigers is stronger than ever.

Mary Ann,
When we first conversed over the white tigers on Buckles blog, that was my point to you. I will take fact, but I will not take media hype. Some suggest I don't love animal because of that. They don't know I love them more then they do. People have equal rights, but animals are not created equally.
