A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Just heard that Martin Lacey jr. was hurt on his face by Kansanga (male lion on this picture)during a performance of the Circus Krone in Germany.
Vincent
Just seen on the French website
aucirque.com
that Martin was hospitalised at the weekend having been bitten by one of his lions towards the end of the act on Krone.
Those of you with better French than me will be able to get fuller details from the website.
John.
Bad news. I trust is was not serious. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and any news you gentlemen hear, let us know as soon as possible. Appreciate it. And Adam and Casey, be safe.

"Martin Lacey Jr. was injured yesterday during a presentation of Krone Circus in Hagen. It is at the end of the act when the lion Ksanga (770 lb.) is at the top of the pyramid and he pretends to refuse to come down that the accident happened. In effect, at this instant Martin Lacey had to give a piece of meat to the lion with his mouth, at this instant the trainer stumbled, scaring the lion who involuntarily with his teeth notched the cheek of the aforementioned.
Impressive injury that did not prevent Martin Lacey from ending the act, but who had to be immediately hospitalized. The other presentations of the weekend went on without the act of beasts."
Translated by Mary Ann's daughter, who has a bachelor's degree in French from a major university. We both wish Matin Lacey the best.
Mary Ann
Wade, I asked Lara to translate it because her French is much better than mine. When I first read it, I did not realize that the lion's refusal to come down was a bounce.
Mary Ann
Mary Ann,
It wasn't a bounce. He bounces some of the females. Kasanga flops in the middle of the floor, after first refusing to come down and Martin lays on him. I feel confident it is not serious, now that I realize it was a tooth. Those aren't too bad, but the claws, or as Katia Shuman would say "the hooks", that's where serious comes from.
Wade
I have yet to have either feel good going in, however the claws come out harder sometimes. I hate to hear it was in the face. Though I don't know Mr. Lacey, I hope it heals with little problems.
Casey,
I am assuming it wasn't a bite if they walked out together. Possibly what on an elephant would be called a tusk scuff or scrape. Similar to a razor cut, which bleeds like a stuck pig as it is a surface wound. At least I am hoping that's what it was.
Now that Natalie has left the room, I'll tell you about the mileage you can get with the scar on your face. In hanging female paper, you fought for your life and just barely survived go's a long way. If they disapprove of your craft, then a rapier cut when you were a member of the Olympic Fencing Team will work. Don't go right in this afternoon and try to get your face cut, just be aware if it does happen there is a bright side. LOL
