In the past I have mentioned a Russian wild animal trainer, Stepan Denisov, that impressed me when I saw him perform when the Moscow State Circus toured the United States. Here is a picture of Stepan Denisov performing, that I personally took at the Nassau Coliseum in 1977.

CircusNoSpin readers,
I am sorry, I couldn't resist. I had to make a second comment while I was there, as Anonymous seemed to have been waiting for my comment for a while. So I honestly left this one also:
Anonymous,
Because you called my attention to the photo, I looked at it longer then I normally would have, and I notice something I hope you can answer. The tiger on the left pedestal is not even sitting down, and the tiger on the right pedestal is already sitting up. What is going on here? I think I may know, but I will wait for your response.

Casey,
Can you imagine running a picture like that to hang paper for your Pal. It illustrates that maybe Mr. Penndorff doesn't know as much about the fine art of animal training as he supposes.
The only two reasons justified to turn your whip like that is to defend yourself or to save the life of another animal. I don't see either of those scenarios here. Some do use it for a third reason, but it is not a justified reason.

Here's a shock. My comments didn't post. I just sent another one:
Buckles,
I rightly assumed you knew what the whip held that way meant. We have to be careful posting pictures of the "good old days" people might misinterpret the profession today. Or we might have to explain what they are seeing."

Maybe it will run, maybe it won't. -

Margaret,
All due respect, I don't think Casey said "dental work" as a joke. He has just seen what is sometimes the end result of that stance. Note the photo was 1977, and it is now 2008. I trust Ian won't hold it against any of us.
Can you imagine somebody who loves the circus, and apparently was impressed with this gent, posted that picture, and it ran. I remember one of Terrell Jacobs with his "menopausal lioness" that was ran during a "Terrell was greatest memorial". I just left it alone as it just wasn't worth it. In this case, this goof didn't realize the trainer hadn't comped me a snow cone or signed an autograph, and he asked.
My God, we are claiming to trying to make the public understand/accept, and this clown with 60 years and revered as an "artistic genius" runs a picture like that of his pal. The expression "pissing in the wind", comes to mind.
Casey and I promised each other if we ever found a picture like that of either of us we would burn it.

Wade, "All due respect" I knew that Casey didn't mean it as a joke. I also know what the end result of that stance means.
P.S. Did you have any ideas on the elephant in the pic I sent you? I wonder if they used super glue?...LOL.... -

Margaret,
I didn't get a chance to respond yet, but the down loads didn't come through. Let Joseph send it next time so there is not a problem and I can see it.

Casey,
There you go. We have our friend Ian, and dear Margaret who left this business over 25 years ago and are now the public in a sense, and you are going to debate me on what the public knows or wants. Add all the people hired for one hour, one day, one week, one month, etc. etc. with the goofs, temp. girlfriends, temp. boy friends, who chimed up in a pub, restaurant, etc. in an "effort to be with it an for it" and multiply it by 50 years, and that is a pretty big public, which isn't opening their mouths, just not coming any more, and telling us how to do it. Don't forget the Grandfathers, Grandmothers who told their kids, who told their kids. I suggest we better start with some facts, and not patches. Hopefully we can keep what we have, and reverse the trend. I'll be taking a dirt nap if it does happen, but I can sure hope right now.

pops,
you stole my answer. I was going to say that the only time you turn your whip that way is to break up a fight or to stop a cat from giving you the hug-o-death. That would have been a good pic but it was ruined by the trainer.

Hello Son,
Of course I got the answer before you, I've done it a bit longer. LOL
I hope you are getting enough rest on that grind you are on. Please be careful, and safe. I love you very, and will talk to you soon.

Just out of curiosity, what were you doing in the vicinity of Nassau Coliseum back then? That's my neck of the woods.
Mr Burck must be sleeping late. These pictures have been up for hours with nary a critical word.
