Detoit--2nd date of the white tiger premier--First practice

If you will count, you will note 17 tigers. We made the act 16 and took out the tiger just behind my back. His name was Roman, and he was purchased the year before, and had been hand raised as a movie tiger. Wonderful sweet animal, but did no do well in a group situation, being raised by himself. He went into the new act that John Cox was training with Solomon where he worked for many years, as he was not required to do "group" tricks.

Wade, was this the Shrine Circus? Was the venue the Michigan State Fairgrounds? If not, what circus was it, and do you remember the venue? Thank you. You really have had a tremendous history and career.

Mary Ann,
Yes it was the Michigan State Fairgrounds. I don't know if they still play there.

Wade, they still played at the Michigan state Fairgrounds when we saw Othmar Vohringer there in 1997, which I think was the last time Hawthorn came to Detroit. This year the Shrine Circus came to the Michigan State Fairgrounds, but it was the Tarzan Zerbini Circus. We didn't go. There was a period of time when the Detroit Shrine Circus was held at another venue, but I don't know where or when.

Wade, I did find the story about how this act was assembled. I'm sorry that I didn't make the connection the first time.
