A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade, we have also seen okapi on our trips to Cincinnati.

Years ago I read an anti-zoo editorial in The Economist which said that every okapi in captivity has a chromosomal defect. When I investigated this I learned that some okapis have an odd number of chromosomes, like some Iranian sheep, and that although this would cause Down's Syndrome in humans it's perfectly normal and harmless to okapis, and I guess Iranian sheep.
