"That Wallace Beery, who was an elephant man for several years for the Ringlings, had a grand time "trunking" elephants on the the Big Show lot at Los Angeles last September. There were several in the herds that he had handled as a youngster at about $12.50 weekly."
anonymous,
Wait just a minute!!!! Are you trying to tell me that Hollywood films about the circus are not accurate? Everything in the circus is accurate. That's why Buckles blog doesn't censor or erase things. Accuracy is paramount in the circus. What about the revered GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, Pal. You know the one held up to us youngsters as an example of how great it was in the old days, and to the Felds as an example of how they should build their show.
I know for a FACT, that the GM Brad, while pinned under a wreak, was still able to train the elephants, feed the cats, direct traffic, sort out affairs, hang paper, get the payroll ready, rebuilt the stringers, and get the tent ready to go up. And he did it all without losing his fedora. So take your statement about inaccuracy out of this house. It is not welcome here.

Wallace Beery starred in the Hollywood film "The Mighty Barnum." Don't look to it for accurate history.
