When John Herriott "indicated" that other horse trainers were not talented or skilled because they weren't Circus or High School Trainers, because they only walk, trot, and canter he forgot to mention, forgot, didn't know, hand gallop. If there is an interest in Arabian horses, and some of what the trainers do I hope you will find these photo of interest. Not only do they compete regionally against their peers, a true completion, like skill against like skill and like horse against like horse, but the best of the best compete once a year at the Nationals. 20 to 25 equally skilled members of the same fraternity judged by accredited judges learned in the discipline and breed, for Champion. Doesn't matter what the audience thinks, doesn't matter what they think at the coffee shop, doesn't matter who your father, mother, husband, wife, or friends think .
John Herriott seems confident in his skills and ability's which is great all the great one's are. I would like to have John submit a video tape/dvd of American Anthem, and I could contact 10 other high school trainers and have them submit the same video tape/dvd,(they have already agreed to do it), and have them "judged" by accepted judges. Only High School/Haute Ecole, nothing else What an interesting, fun, educational thing that would be. What do you say, John? Are you game? Wade Burck

I have always loved the Arabian horse! They're one of my favorite breeds, and definatly one of the most versatile. Thanks for posting this Wade!
Bud
There you go with the "Spin" Wade. I did not say the trainers were untalented. Also I never have implied that 'American Anthem" was a Great High School horse, but he did a good job and routine that I was "PAID" to present him on Ringling [center ring], Beatty Cole [all alone], Lashinskys big World of Horses [principal act] and in fact his name American Anthem is recognized in horse circles, so he must have been OK. I have some footage of him unedited from parts of general performances, Rodeo, Sid Kellner, RBBB and Beatty. Only photos are standing poses. We never took any action stuff. He did opening trot routine, sidepass, etc. canter pirouette to stop and leg up pivot bow in bothe directions into three step, segue to march to front stop with leg up, segue to march backward in stride to back of ring and bow. Forward to excellent Piaffer To "turkey in the Straw" aqnd finish with kick to "shave and a haircut" Immediately to cantor and strike out rear routine and then Passage and lifting it to Hight Trot [not overwhelming high but passable] to middle stop and Break down bow. Then canter off to chaser music. He put alot of meals on our table. He was a gentle Gelding. Doritas "Bouncing Bomber" was a gentle gelding as well. I am not into high powered stallions. I like to turn all my horses out together and have had mares as well. Our Apache Bandolero was an Apaloosa Stallion, but was a good quiet guy. Wade, over the years I have done and routined alot of high school stuff. Double high school black and white in a nice "me and my shadow" . Great Dane Harlequin marching in perfect time With Apache with me in saddle [Big Apple Circus]. Three rings of identical High School for seasons with Beatty Cole and Jimmy Harrington in Puerto Rico and Venezuela and so on. On Vargas I presented a better Saddlebred [stallio] than Anthem that I named American Jubilee, but I had to get rid of him because he went nuts when traveling, even in a custom "TRAILLET". Smaha had a similar situation and have heard of other instances. Believe me I tried it all. Fess Reynolds, Bill Rivers and other Calif. horse people gave me advice, but nothing worked. He would come out all skinned up. Now before Anthem in years I have ridden Manage, High school, Specialty horses on the Hippodrome track and some Jumpers as well. Satisfied.
Johnny,
I don't think we spin anything. That's what "anonymous" and deleting of posts does. Might someone "interpret" wrong. Possible, thats why you are allowed to rebut.
The statement:
-----------------------------------
This off the wall stable that Wade refers to that trains [and I use that term loosely] some eighty horses daily, or as he says, schools them. In what; walk, trot and cantor? Come on, get off the BS. I amreferring to the, as you suggest the complete training of High School or Dressage.
-----------------------------------
trains (and I use the term loosely)
"Might be misleading."
In what; walk, trot and cantor? Come on, get off the BS.
"Might also indicate, a scorn at what the trainers skills are."
I did not suggest the complete training of anything. But I have asked you numerous times, for what you think a "complete", as you have said, High School act is. Dressage is never completed, plus it is not an act in the true sense. Again, how old was the Circus Williams horse that Mary Ruth rode, when it came here, and how long was it used.
-----------------------------------
This statement might also be "misinterpreted":
-----------------------------------
something to do with training of Ar4ab horses, who happen to be the worst candidates for High School or Dressage. I can't believe you would be so bold in addressing issues that you do not know the first thing about.
-----------------------------------
Don't worry that Anthem was a gelding. 2 of the 10 Dvds that are being submitted are geldings, and 2 are Saddlebreds. No Appaloosas though, sorry. But it is not a breed show, so that shouldn't be an issue. Oh yes, 3 of them are Arabians, so that should address your statement of "I can't believe you would be so bold in addressing issues that you do not know the first thing about", with out any "spin". You have learned to like that word "spin", haven't you John. So if you are game, send a tape and we will get all of them sent to the judges.
I'm not saying, but if I was, why do you think we have to go back 25, 30 years or more to reference great high school in American circus, when most of the trainers mentioned really made their name outside of the circus? Also, why can we find the same greatness in Europe today, that we go back decades to compare to here?
60 years in the trenches will make your insight valuable, and thats why I am asking. Thank you
Regards,
Wade
Wade - Love the Arabian pictures, hate the fake tails. But, all breeds seem to be doing that these days. As a horse show announcer, may I just say - English horses walk, trot and canter (not cantor) and western horses walk, jog and lope.
Jeannie
Jeannie,
I know what fake tails are, put the ones here are not, guaranteed. Nothing, anything more wrong with a fake tail, then glitter stars on a horses hip. I knew that about the gaits and thank you for adding it. It goes to the versatility of an Arabian. At Nationals the Park horses hand gallop. Canter ok. Geez, if you want to spell check proof read Herriott. LOL
Wade
Wade - That first one is definitely a fake tail. You can see that his real one ends at the hocks. And hand gallop is correct. As for spell checking Herriott - who has that much time?
Jeannie
Jeannie,
You are absolutely correct about the first one. And I commend you on the effort to validate you beliefs. I've been told I am hard headed, which is why I am not married. What do you think of that thought Jeannie? LOL Madame Col. was pointing out fake tails all over Cavallia. It must be a girl thing.
Wade
I use a fake mane sometimes....does that count?
Madame Col.
Fake mane on who? Roman? They make better ones now. LOL
Wade
Wade - Effort to validate my beliefs? No, just stating facts. You - hard headed? I don't believe that. And there's a reason I'm not married too. Been there, done that, don't need to do it again. I try not to repeat my mistakes. But I still appreciate a good pair of Wranglers.
Jeannie.
Jeannie,
Not me. I keep walking right back into the same bear trap. Been there, done that, and I will continue going there, and doing that.
You know the expression, If they buck you off, get back on.
Wade
