A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I trained this polar bear when I worked for Chipperfield's in the '70s. However, I think this picture was taken after my time. My last year was 1977 and I had seven polar bears and one Himalayan black bear in the act. The original act was trained in 1963 by Dick Chipperfield jnr and his father. It consisted of 10 Himalayan black bears and five polar bears. This combination changed as they took out and added animals throughout its existence. I eventually bought the last three polar bears in the early '90s.
