Hawthorn Mellody Zoo

In the past we have discussed the Polar bear/Grizzly bear hybrids that were at the National Zoo, and a photo was requested. I don't have any of the National Zoo's but above is a picture of a one month old Polar/Grizzly hybrid cub, one of a number that Hawthorn bred. Later a Hawthorn act, which was presented by Eloise Berchtold had a couple of the hybrid's in the act. I don't know if this cub is one of those animals or not. I saw the above mentioned Berchtold hybrids in 1976 a short time before Eloise was killed, and they were quite a striking, beautiful animal. Large and thick like a Grizzly, with a light yellow/palomino coloration.

John Cuneo's birthday is coming up, and as long as I have known him, he always appreciates a few months "publicity/advance notice" to that fact. LOL Good bless him, a more unique individual you will never meet.

The back of the Dairy Barn above in 1950 and the front below in 1948. This barn later burned down(does anyone know the date) along with, as I was told, a carriage barn with the loss of many historic carriages. The "manure track" from this barn was later installed in the elephant barn in Richmond in 1977.
