A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Changing Times
Above is a teaching aid poster from 1930, designed to pin up on classroom walls to teach children proper etiquette/manners. The caption with the picture of the begging bears, reads "More Please." Imagine, the behavior of a bear "begging," which offended mankind in the 90's, was once considered so normal and natural that it was used to teach manners to school children.
The illustration might have been inspired by the polar bear exhibit at Brookfield. The Zoo had a stand that sold marshmallows convienently located across from the bears. On a summer Sunday the bear display was loaded with the little white puffs.
