3 tigers escape circus truck in western Mexico

Wed Nov 5, 11:01 pm ET

MEXICO CITY – Authorities says three tigers that had escaped from a Mexican
circus truck were recaptured after police distracted them by throwing them
chickens.
The local newspaper Cambio de Michoacan says the escaped felines holed up in
house in the western city of Zitacuaro. When the tigers started breaking down
the home's fence, police lobbed them chickens to eat until a dogcatcher and
the animals' trainer arrived.
An officer at the state police office in Zitacuaro says the tigers were loose
for less than an hour. The officer was not authorized to be quoted by name.
The big cats were recaptured Wednesday and taken to a local police station
where they were held until their owner agreed to pay for the chickens and damage
to the fence.

A well known American Circus Producer, was visiting this show when this happened. I talked to him Thursday at the Houston Airport, and I guess it was pretty wild, and very lucky there were no injuries. The tigers actually jumped on the roof of the house after running through it, and luckily jumped over a barrier wall which formed a tunnel or chute, which made it easier to catch them. In true circus style, he grabbed a buggy whip and attempted to help the trainers. After the tiger's we caged, and the police hand cuffed the trainers to the truck, in true producer style, he threw his whip in the bushes and sauntered away down the street whistling. LOL For the damage in the elderly lady's house and to the clothes on her clothes line, they pieced her off with 40 peso's, about 30.00. He said she was thrilled with the 40 peso's, and didn't realize in the United States she could have had about 15 million dollars, and litigated it for a couple of years. LOL It is a wild and wooly frontier world down there.
