A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Hagenbeck-Wallace Clyde Beatty
Does anyone know if these are service men posing with the Great Clyde Beatty, or were these spec uniforms/costumes?
I read an article once where he commented about the guards. They were show hands dressed as military to prove how dangerous the act was. A man in the audience commented to Mr. Beatty that,"with all that rpotection, I'd let my grandmother go into the cage". After hearing that, he did away with the "guards". Bob Momyer
The Top two photos were taken by Bob Good in 1934.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom photo was taken April 25, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN. by Chalmer Condon. The original photo is now in the Pfening Archives.
