A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Monkey Island--Como Park Zoo
Did they actually keep monkeys on this island at the same time? What a horrible exhibit!!!!! Were there no problems with the alligators? It looks like there were also fur seals in the exhibit with the sea lions and alligators. Just an awful, non educational exhibit, I would think.......

I'm surprised you haven't commented on the latest death at the California 'sanctuary'. What is the remote likelihood that the lion that killed the volunteer was actually a Barbary lion? I'm guessing highly doubtful.
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes!! I've seen monkey islands with spider monkeys and alligators but never pinnipeds with alligators. Had to be before 1972 and the Marine Mammal Protection Act - couldn't even fake it because they sent inspectors. Didn't see a fur seal but did see an attentive harbor seal. No doubt a well fed alligator.

Jim,
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing out what a moron I am. I can't even alibi and say "I meant to say harbor seal" because you would point out that I was bullshitting. Geez......... All in all it is about the strangest "mixed species" exhibit I have ever seen.

Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI don't waste much time or effort on sanctuaries, except the hypocrites who confiscate elephants, because they are not worth the time or effort. I had seen the incident on the internet, and after reading the "feel good" stories connected, grew tired of it. No, I would bet anything it was not Barbary.
