A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.
Bruce, This is so "elephant." Note how she take's each offering of food from him, and set's it aside to eat at her leisure. It wasn't until he tried to touch her that she took his head off. :) I used to have a wise old girl named Joyce who would patiently eat each apple offered by a Shriner. When they were all gone, and they would turn the bag upside down to show her that fact, she would slap them right in the mouth. A fez doesn't seem heavy enough to fly, but trust me, they can sail.
Wow, that is something. I am surprised he was able to get up and away so fast. Was there a thud when he hit the ground? Neat how she just moves on and keeps eating. -Chris
Chris, And this was just a candy whack. All she was trying to do was knock him away. A "full scale, I am going to hurt you" whack is very, very impressive. Elephant's whack, horses kick, tigers bite. It's their "communication/language."
