  1. If my memory is correct the building on the right of the first photo is part of the railroad station. The Zoo entrance is that humble small gate. Once inside there are a few locations were you can see apartment buildings as the background to rhinos, etc. (As big as it is, there are views like that at the Bronx Zoo too.) It's a little reminder that you're right in the middle of the city.

    Thanks for these photos. I visited Antwerp in 1989. The pictures make me want to return.

    I have a few more coming manana, sorry, tomorrow. I have never had the pleasure of viewing this wonderful, old historic zoo but I have admired it from afar in photo's for a long long time. Part of the uniqueness of an Antwerp or a Bronx is the fact that you know you haven't left the city, as deep as they try to immerse you in "nature." A North Carolina zoo is beautiful yes, but it lacks the historic charm of Bronx.
