A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Vintage Monkey Islands--Como Park Zoo
Como Zoo's monkey island used to serve as a habitat for monkeys of the Macaque, Guenon and Capuchin families, as well as raccoons until the 1950's when it became "seal island." It was built in 1932 by the WPA(Works Progress Administration)
A few years back I talked to a young lass who was working @ Como Zoo. She didn't know that there had been an operable monkey island. I'll never forget it. My mom used to take me to Como when I was 5 and she was 28 in 1967. You could also pay, like, 25 cents to get a plastic gorilla made in front of you. Can't remember the name of the star gorilla, though.
