A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Elephant Rides--Unknown Zoo 1913
If we go by the postmark this photo was taken at a Canadian zoo. Or it was a photo "filched" from another zoo, a common practice at the time. Does anyone have any idea what zoo it could be. Not many used Africans for rides. The 14 year old child who sent this postcard seems rather cheeky. Note 'our teacher could not teach us, so went home.' :)
This photo is from London zoo, the African is "Jingo.
ReplyDeleteThe book "London Zoo from old photographs" features this elephant, has the same face, ear pattern and howdah to positively identify him.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I thought London given it was an African, but wanted to confirm.
