A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Any idea's who this might be? Is it Frank Bostock or one of his trainers? Everybody seemed to sport a Larry Allen Dean mustache back in those days.
Yes, this is Frank Bostock, taken in Paris. He was attacked by a big male lion. His brother told him not to work this animal as it was a real killer, but they wanted the publicity for the show. They sure got it.
He died not long after this and his brother always attributed it to this lion attack.
Incidentally his brother wasn't on the show at this time and was running the Bostock and Wombwelle's Menagerie, as I know it, in the UK.
Jim, Great stuff, thank you. My first major "accident" occurred in 1978 when my brother Mike told me, "watch out for Sultan." "Who are you talking to, me?" I replied. "I'm the trainer, you are the assistant. I know what I am doing." :) Yes, it does tend to increase the box office.
