A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Paulina, Katja, Albert, Max, Jacques and Benny Schumann--Cirkus Schumann 1964
Talk about coincidence, having just finished emailing you some 'vintage' video footage, including some of the Schumann horse acts, I check your blog and....LOL!!
gazrob, I posted "Shumann" about an hour before your kind contributions arrived. Great, great stuff thank you. Dicky Chipperfield dressed as a little hindu boy is classic. I will post a few tomorrow.
I was just surprised, that you had posted this stuff, when I had literally just been looking at other film clips of the Schumanns at Olympia, certainly a class act!
I doubt Dicky would be impressed with the reminder of wearing that costume, but guess we all have to start somewhere, and interesting to see his father working the lion act.
gazrob, I take enough heat for my blond hair and "Gunther bra" Dicky needs to man up and take a little pressure off me with his baggy pants, turban and boney 9 year old pigeon chest, don't you think?
Madame Col. That little grey was fancy, wasn't he!!!! Come on, you know there is nothing an Arabian can't do the best. I am always amazed at the obvious quality of the horse's they used to have in the circus when I look at old clips. I wonder when that was lost and jug headed bag of bone's appeared on the circus scene which exceptions such as the Smaha offerings and a few others.

Haven't seen a "high trot " in years especially one that is actually moving at a trot and not a crab like walk.... but then again this is old footage.
