A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Mexico Update
It's amazing, but after 6 day's of solid rain and 13 performances, every show with the exception of two have been sold out(seating capacity 2000). It may have a lot to do with the comfort of the patrons in tough circumstances. The substrate in the menagerie tent, which is seen on the left with the sidewall removed, had become soggy regardless of the trench dug around the tent before the rains started. A show hauls a second identical menagerie tent(guy ropes visible on the left) and it was erected to the left of the first tent. The first tent was left standing for the comfort of patrons while awaiting the finish of one performance and the start of another. In addition Poncho and son Ricardo Aguilar erected an additional blue and yellow awning over the ticket wagon which leads to the left standing menagerie tent, which leads to the "big top". From the time the patrons buy a ticket they are out of the rain until they leave the performance tent after the performance. The addition of 3 truck loads of red gravel spread over the lot has kept it virtually "mud free." A different mentality then the "grab the cash and run" thinking that has fueled circus's for generations.
Wade, There`s nothing more American on the 4th of July than a picture of a Mexican Circus set up on a Walmart Lot. Just thought it was kinda funny ! Have a good one man !
ReplyDeleteA while back it was suggested that by saying Circo de Miami's horses are Nellies old act was 'hanging paper for Nellie"
ReplyDeleteAnyway they ARE, I asked her.

Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteYou are still "hanging paper." So what? I recalled the red harness you pictured, not the black the horses currently have, so didn't recognize the horses as Nellie's old act.
