A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.
Lion's name was Pan. A really good lion, Jules would set-up for the lion act with Pan in a safety cage. Jules would open the latch and leave the arena. Pan would get up open the door, walk across the arena "checking the props", and open the door and enter the other safety cage awaiting is role in the lion act. Pan did the paper hoop thru a 27'' bike rim hoop and later a fire hoop of the same size.
Jules' owned the five lions that closed the show. Pan and King Solomon (Pee Wee) came with Jules from Jungleland. When he left after the 1969 season the Zoo kept one, three were sold to Carson and Barnes, and Jules took Pan to Peoria, IL with 4 leopards to work at the Zoo for the summer. Pan died at the Glen Oak Zoo.
