A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Circo Atayde(Aguilar) Coacalco, Mexico
Incredibly, it takes one day to tear down the whole operation and load it, and 3 day's to set it back up. I had a practice schedule set to start at 6:00Am and the first day half the crew threatened to walk. Management asked me "please, can you not be such an American, and be more reasonable." LOL We changed the practice schedule to start at 9:00AM, with the understanding that if any one is late, I would change it to 5:00AM. So far it has worked out very well. And folks tell me that I am hard headed and won't compromise. Ridiculous, I'm Mr. Congeniality when it come's to animal training.
Hi Wade,
ReplyDeleteMore pictures please! I hope your having a good time south of the border.

Chris,
ReplyDeleteI will attempt to have more pictures, as time permits. Better then a good time. I love Mexico, and the show owners are some of the most cooperative and accommodating people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Wade
Very cool! Are the black horses and the white camels from Ian Garden. If they are, I think Yasmine presented the horses in her first year on the Big Apple. I think I heard that about four of the six horses were sent to Mexico?
ReplyDeleteHave a GREAT time! =)
Chris
Chris,
ReplyDeleteYes, this is an act that Ian Garden trained. I posted a couple of pictures of the act a few weeks ago(will try to get different ones, as time permits). No, these are not the horse's Yasmine presented. Those were the black act Ian trained. This is a new group of horses. Probably one of the nicest "exotic" acts I have seen in about 20 years. Big, big, beautiful white dromedary camels, and classy black Arabians. Red patent leather on the blacks, and blue patent leather on the camels. The act opens with 10 dancing girls dressed as Egyptian princesses with a beautifully choreographed presentation, followed by the act, superbly presented by 20 year old Josip Gardner, grandson of Jim Gardner, who we have discussed in the past(he brought the Hawthorn Wild Animal Fantasy to Mexico in the early 70's, and stayed here.) The incredible music was written exclusively for the act. The sound system is the finest I have ever heard, and the only thing to rival it is the large live band's Ringling used to have. Any thing less then a 12 piece band can not touch this show's sound system. Add the "black light" effects and the presentation and it is a knock out. I talked young Josip(young men are easy to talk into things) into getting on one of the giraffe's yesterday, while I held it. If continues to go well we may see if he can ride it into the ring after the "Egyptian princess" opening, followed by the camel's and horses, dressed as a Pharaoh, instead of the now worn jacket, before dismounting to present the act.

Wade,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fantastic show and nothing like the rumors spread regarding Mexican circuses. Would you say it is one of the best in Mexico?
Wow, I have to go back and find the pictures of the act; it sounds very nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Chris
Radar,
ReplyDeleteIn regards to rumors in the circus, long ago I mentioned to you to be very alert to who is doing the telling and why before accepting it as fact.
What is the best? Has there been a standard set since my departure that I was not aware of? Until that time it is just rumors that you allude to.
