A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Buenos Aires Zoo Elephant House
Given the "crystal cathedrals" and "Asian Jungle Markets" that are being built today in a modern world with high technology and machines, you can't help but be so very, very impressed with the skill and craftsmanship of many of the older zoo buildings, structures, and exhibits built years ago. Although the standard was to replicate the exotic origins of the animals, there seemed, in my mind to be more pride in what was built, as well as an apparent institutional pride in the facility you were designing and building it for. Today it seems to be about meet and greets, cocktail parties and impressing colleagues, or winning some award from folks as full of it as the architect/designer who conceived it.
There was an Asian calf bred and born in Buenos Aires zoo in 1905. Alex Haufellner published a photo with this beautiful house as background.
