You have to wonder if German artist, Ludwig Schongauer ever saw an elephant, or if he was guessing or going by word of mouth when he drew this animal. The body is more bovine with camel feet. Current location Vienna. Interesting is the "leash" around the elephant's neck, which was used on Circus Krone by Ida for their African Elephant years ago, as well as by the Sonny Fratello family today.

You have to wonder if German artist, Ludwig Schongauer ever saw an elephant, or if he was guessing or going by word of mouth when he drew this animal. The body is more bovine with camel feet. I saw them leading the baby Africans on leashes on Allan Hill's show. Must be an African thing.
