A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Vintage Colombus Zoo Postcard
The back of this card reads, "This baby Giraffe was born at the Columbus Zoo. the mother and father are natives of Kenya Province, British East Africa. They live in a $50,000 home at the zoo." $50,000 won't even by a temple entrance today. LOL
The $50,000 giraffe house also housed the zoo office on the second floor. The old Columbus Zoo had some pretty low budget facilities but they had some nice animals. It was about to be closed for good. Though sometimes we might question some of his routine, Jack Hanna made Columbus a fine Zoo.
I remember the last day the giraffes lived in that pen. I had an office in the upstairs area for a number of years. It was a sad day for me when that building came down.

ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteAgreed about Jack. As stated in the past, he took Columbus to the top, over shadowing Cincinnati and their White Tigers, in the public eye.
