A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Does anybody know anything more about this picture?
I wonder if this picture was taken during a performance, or if it was staged as a "publicity" shot. Just curious, because of the way the elephant's are facing and the way the trainer is facing, plus the background of a railcar and wagon. I hope anybody who may have been at Baraboo, around this time may have more insight. Thanks Wade
Wade, I might be wrong, but this was the early 1960's and I don't believe the Hippodrome had been completed yet so the performances were held outdoors here. The lack of anyone else in the photo seems to say "Press"
I, of course knew who it was, but was hoping John would see it, and tell me himself. Bob, that makes sense. It didn't look like a "show" shot, although they are in costumes, because John Milton would have been grandstanding a lot more. LOL How is the Col. doing, has anyone heard? I haven't seen him around any of the internet lot's, and was growing a bit concerned. He is a good man, and I wish him the best. Wade

Wade,
ReplyDeleteAgree with Bob. Likely a staged shot for publicity or for a post card.
