A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Carl Hagenbeck and Unknown Keeper
I wonder who the sea lion keeper is with Carl in this picture. He seems to be in many pictures with the sea lions over a long period of time.
Richard, I can I tell. They don't have those white things hanging down. Jeez. Carl's pitch seems similar to the "kid gentle, can be handled by anyone" renegade animal pitch I have heard often. Wade
These are walruses. Good grief - -7of them.
ReplyDeleteOld Carl tried to talk the Ringlings into buying one of his walruses. Told them that they could be kept as easily as circus hippos.
Come on Carl - - a hippo is just about the easiest whereas a walrus is one of the toughest.
The Boo Brothers did not bite on that one.
While Carl was making his pitch to the Brothers he was writing in his book about how tough it is to maintain walruses, which is verily the truth.
