A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Surrey's Zoological Garden--Chessington, England
These spectacles were called "shows" and "educational." I am kind of glad the philosophy of shows, an educational changed over time. I would like to think we learned from mistakes of the past.
I used to go to Chessington quite a lot when I was much younger as it was quite close to where my grandmother lived. At that time it was called a zoo. Much later on it became a "Theme Park", complete with a "circus". I use the quotation marks because it was policy not to use animal acts in the show because it was not considered "proper" (which is the word I choose to use at this length of time). I remind you that this was in something which was basically a zoo. I say no more.
John, Great insight. Although the whole world has become proficient at "word games", and "spin", and "justification", the Brits I am familiar with have taken it to a new level. And they are convincing in their belief. Until it is advantageous to change tomorrow. LOL A theme park with a circus, that is a zoo, but won't use animals, yet had some bloody fine tea parties in the past. Wade
