A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I think the polar photo is St. Louis. I can tell where the photographer was standing. If a zoo history buff checks out the area they'll find a small plaque with the name W.H.Bochert, the man who designed and supervised the building of the bear pits.
Jim,
The photo was from a set all called Biopark Rome. I assumed it was and exhibit that hadn't been "redone" yet. Was the original zoo in Rome designed by Hagenbeck,do you know. That may be why they exhibits all look the same, or are you saying you recognize the white bear. LOL
Wade
Well the St. Louis is relatively close to "the Hill", the Italian section of town.
The Bear Pits at STL were designed and built by W.H.Bochert after he did a smaller version for the Denver Zoo.
